Just as Major League Baseball has sent some exclusive broadcast rights to Apple TV+, the NFL is embracing the streaming model, with Amazon Prime taking over Thursday night duties. And, let’s hope they do it right, because the company holds those rights for the next 11 years, with some exceptions, like on Thanksgiving.

The group of ministers (GoM) mandated to decide on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) levy on online gaming, horse racing, and casinos is considering whether online games of skill should be treated differently from such games of chance.

The committee, headed by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, which met on Monday has reached out to the law committee on the legal aspect of such differential treatment, officials with knowledge of the deliberations told ET.

The decision to seek legal opinion comes after online gaming companies cited various court orders that distinguished games of skill from games of chance.

The GoM had earlier decided to recommend a levy of 28% GST on gross gaming revenue for online gaming. It has now sought more time to submit its final recommendations.

It’s been easy to feel disconnected over the past two and a half years, despite all the hours spent doing Zoom trivia and online gaming with friends.

But this new research suggests it doesn’t only happen when we’re face to face.

“We were able to show that inter-brain phase synchronization can occur without the presence of the other person,” says one of the teamcognitive researcher Valtteri Wikström from the University of Helsinki

If you have won money playing online games in the previous financial year, then as per the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), you must file an updated ITR (ie, ITR-U) and pay taxes on the online game winnings accordingly.

Almost a third of pre-teen boys are playing over-18s online games and are more likely to be exposed to violent imagery and harmful content, according to new research.

The figures are contained in the annual report of the internet safety charity CyberSafeKids.

According to the data, 95% of children aged 8-12 own their own smart device, while 87% have their own social media or instant messaging account, despite minimum age restrictions of 13 on all of the most popular apps.

Over a third of children reported that they can go online “whenever they want”, and 15% reported having “no rules” in place at home for going online.

Over a quarter of children surveyed said they had been bothered by content they had encountered online, and 29% of them kept it to themselves rather than report it to their parents or someone else.
