Nintendo Switch Online adds the best Kirby game you’ve never played

Heads up, puzzlers. The latest Nintendo Switch Online update has brought an obscure, albeit excellent, Kirby game to the service.

If you’re a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber, you can now stream Kirby’s Avalanche via the service’s digital SNES library. Based on Sega’s classic blob matching puzzler, Puyo Puyo, it probably isn’t the first SNES Kirby game you think of. But it’s certainly one of the most unique and fun.

Joining Kirby’s Avalanche is SNES fighting game Fighter’s History, and NES shooter Daiva Story 6. The latter features a fair bit of Japanese text, but the shoot-em-up nature of the game makes it perfectly playable for English audiences.

You’ll be prompted to download the update the next time you boot up the Nintendo Switch’s SNES and NES apps. Once it’s done, the games will be added to the top of each app’s menu, ready for you to stream.

New Free Nintendo Switch Online Games Come With a Huge Surprise

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have new free SNES and NES games, or, more specifically, two new SNES games and one new NES game. Because these aren’t Sega Genesis games nor N64 games, these new freebies don’t require the Expansion Pack tier of the subscription service, aka the more expensive tier of the subscription service. All you need to download and enjoy the three new games is a basic ol’ Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

As for the three games, they are the following titles: Fighter’s History, Kirby’s Avalancheand Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia. The former two are the aforementioned SNES games while the latter is the aforementioned NES game. The first of these games, Fighter’s Historywas developed and published by Data East, who first released the game in 1993 via arcade, with the NES version not coming until two years later in 1995. The second of

Nintendo Switch Online: Every NES, SNES, N64, And Sega Genesis Game

Nintendo has been slowly beefing up its library of games available to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers.

What began as a library of just 20 NES games has grown to include dozens more. Plus, Nintendo has since introduced the SNES, Nintendo 64, and even Sega Genesis games, giving players a chance to play some fan-favorite classics and some deep cuts, too. It’s hard to predict when new games might arrive as the company has maintained a somewhat inconsistent cadence in doing so, but that’s okay because this list is all you need.

As Nintendo adds new titles, we’ll be sure to update this list to include them. If you’re looking for something specific, use this story’s Table of Contents to jump to the different consoles quickly. Here’s every NES, SNES, 64, and Genesis game added to Nintendo Switch Online.
